By late June 1942, he was stationed at Ft Monmouth NJ. He may later have been promoted to captain, and he returned to graduate school after the war.

In 1951 Philip received his doctorate in physical chemistry from SU, moved to Oak Ridge TN, and began his career with the Union Carbide Nuclear Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Philip retired in 1973 as a research staff member with the Chemistry Division. He was a member of several research societies and was a fellow of the American Society for Advancement of Science.92
